Under the National Food Security and Nutrition Mission, a target of 15,860 seed mini-kits has been approved for Pune district as part of the Rabi sorghum initiative for the 2026–27 season.

The scheme aims to provide farmers with improved seed varieties that can help sustain crop production under challenging weather conditions. Sorghum is considered important in areas with limited water availability and can also provide fodder for livestock.

According to the report, the district has been allocated a target of 634 quintals of sorghum seeds under the initiative.

What Will Farmers Receive in Each Mini-Kit?

Each eligible farmer will receive a mini-kit containing four kilograms of sorghum seeds.

The improved varieties included in the scheme are:

  • Parbhani Super Moti
  • Phule Yashomati
  • PKV Shakti

In addition to seeds, the mini-kit will include biofertiliser to support crop growth. Farmers will also receive guidance on appropriate sorghum cultivation practices.
