Pune: Class IX Girl Stabbed by Classmate at Balewadi School Over Social Media Video Dispute
A Class IX girl at a private school in Balewadi, Pune, was allegedly stabbed by a 14-year-old classmate following a dispute over videos posted on Instagram. A shocking incident of alleged violence between school students was reported at a private school in the Balewadi area of Pune on Friday, October 23. A Class IX student was allegedly attacked with a knife by a 14-year-old boy following a dispute linked to videos shared on social media.
According to police, the girl suffered multiple injuries to her face and chest. She was provided with first aid before being shifted to a hospital in Baner for treatment. Her condition was reported to be stable.
Dispute Over Instagram Videos
Preliminary information suggests that the dispute began during a school picnic to Mahabaleshwar and Panchgani on October 17 and 18.
Police said the boy had allegedly recorded videos of female students dancing during an event on the trip and uploaded them to Instagram. Other students reportedly objected to the videos, leading to an argument and demands that the content be deleted.
Investigators suspect that the boy held a grudge following the disagreement. He allegedly attacked the girl with a knife outside a classroom at around 2.15 pm on Friday.
The precise circumstances leading to the attack are being investigated.
Police Detain Minor, Investigation Underway
Police detained the 14-year-old boy in connection with the incident. Authorities are investigating the case and taking further legal action. As the accused and the injured student are minors, their privacy must be respected.
The incident has raised concerns about student safety and the escalation of disagreements over social media content into physical violence.
School Takes Disciplinary and Security Measures
According to reports, the school provided immediate assistance to the injured student and informed her family and the police. The school also reportedly expelled the accused student under its disciplinary procedures.
The management has said it is strengthening campus security, including stricter checks of bags carried by senior students. Counsellors have also been deployed to provide emotional support to students, while the school is cooperating with the police investigation.
