A 19-year-old youth has been arrested by Kondhwa Budruk–Yewalewadi Police for allegedly breaking into a flat in a residential society in Pune to fund his online trading addiction. Police recovered stolen gold ornaments and a silver coin worth approximately ₹70,000 during the investigation.

Pune: Kondhwa Budruk–Yewalewadi Police have arrested a 19-year-old youth for allegedly carrying out a house break-in and theft at a residential society in Kondhwa to arrange money for online trading. Stolen gold ornaments and a silver coin worth around ₹70,000 have been recovered from the accused.
According to police, the complainant, a resident of Kamal Prabha Apartment Society, had left the keys to the flat with the society watchman before leaving for work. Taking advantage of the situation, the accused allegedly broke open the watchman's drawer, stole the flat key, unlocked the apartment, and escaped with gold ornaments and a silver coin.
Following the complaint, Kondhwa Budruk–Yewalewadi Police registered a case under Crime No. 102/2026 and launched an investigation.
During the probe, officers discovered that the society's CCTV cameras had been switched off before the theft. Additionally, the camera installed outside the complainant's flat had been smeared with mud in an apparent attempt to destroy evidence and conceal the identity of the accused.
Police analysed CCTV footage recorded before the cameras were disabled and identified Pratik Rajendra Sharma (19), a resident of the same society, moving suspiciously near the watchman's cabin while the watchman was away on duty.
The suspect was detained for questioning and allegedly confessed to stealing the flat key from the watchman's drawer before carrying out the theft. Police subsequently recovered the stolen gold ornaments and silver coin valued at approximately ₹70,000.
Further investigation is being conducted under the supervision of PSI Akash Vite.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajlaxmi Shivankar, Assistant Commissioner of Police Ram Ingawale, Senior Police Inspector Maruti Patil, Police Inspector (Crime) Deepak Karande, and the investigation team of Kondhwa Budruk–Yewalewadi Police Station.
