Pune Suicide Case: FIR Filed Against Former MLA Ravindra Dhangekar, Wife and Others After 65-Year-Old Contractor Dies by Suicide

Swargate Police have registered an FIR against former Kasba Peth MLA Ravindra Dhangekar, his wife, and several others for allegedly abetting the suicide of a 65-year-old labour and centering contractor from Gultekdi, Pune. The contractor allegedly left behind handwritten suicide notes and videos accusing his business associates of financial exploitation, threats, and prolonged harassment that led him to take the extreme step.

Pune, July 17, 2026: Swargate Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against former Kasba Peth MLA Ravindra Dhangekar, his wife, and several others for allegedly abetting the suicide of a 65-year-old labour and centering contractor from Gultekdi, Pune.

The FIR was registered on Thursday, a day after the contractor was found dead at his residence. According to police, the case has been filed based on a complaint lodged by the deceased's wife under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) pertaining to abetment of suicide and related offences.

Family Alleges Prolonged Harassment

According to the complaint, the contractor had been under severe mental stress for several years due to financial disputes connected to his centering business. His family alleged that continuous threats, intimidation, verbal abuse, and financial pressure from individuals involved in the business pushed him into severe distress.

The complainant claimed that the prolonged harassment ultimately drove the contractor to end his life.

Accused Named in FIR

The FIR names former MLA Ravindra Dhangekar, his wife Shyam Kolapkar, Vishal Kedari, Sunil Ayyar, Raghu Gowda, Sunil Bora, Raj Sethiya, Hamid Shaikh, Balasaheb Shedge, Shubham, and several others as accused in the case.

Police are expected to investigate the allegations against all those named in the complaint.


Videos and Suicide Notes Recovered

Before his death, the contractor allegedly recorded multiple videos and left behind two handwritten suicide notes.

According to the police, the videos surfaced on social media before the FIR was registered. In the recordings, the contractor alleged that he had suffered financial losses amounting to several lakhs of rupees after being cheated by his business associates.

He also claimed that he had been repeatedly threatened and specifically named former corporator Balasaheb Shedge and former Kasba Peth MLA Ravindra Dhangekar, accusing them of pressuring and intimidating him.

Police Investigation Underway

Senior Police Inspector Yeshwant Nikam stated that an Accidental Death Report (ADR) was initially registered following the incident.

After recording statements from the deceased's family members and recovering two handwritten suicide notes, police registered an FIR against the accused on Thursday.

The investigation is currently underway, and police are examining the videos, suicide notes, financial transactions, and other available evidence as part of the probe.
