Pune Accident Case: Tribunal Orders Serum Institute and New India Assurance to Pay ₹16.72 Lakh to Deceased Delivery Worker's Mother

The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal in Pune has directed Serum Institute of India and New India Assurance Company to pay ₹16.72 lakh in compensation to the elderly mother of Kedar Mohanrao Chavan, who died in a road accident in June 2024.
The tribunal held the Mercedes-Benz driver responsible for the accident. The compensation order comes after Chavan's death in the Yerawada area and provides financial relief to his mother.
Fatal Accident in Yerawada
The accident occurred on June 18, 2024, near the Golf Course area in Yerawada, Pune.
Chavan, a 41-year-old delivery worker associated with EV Courier Services and a resident of Padmavati, was travelling towards Pune Airport for a parcel booking when the accident took place.
According to reports, he was riding a two-wheeler when he lost his balance and fell onto the road. A Mercedes-Benz approaching from behind ran over him, causing fatal injuries. He later succumbed to his injuries.
The car reportedly carried a sticker identifying its association with Serum Institute of India.
Tribunal Holds Mercedes-Benz Driver Responsible
While considering the compensation claim, the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal held the Mercedes-Benz driver responsible for the accident. It directed Serum Institute of India and New India Assurance Company to pay ₹16.72 lakh to Chavan's elderly mother.
The order provides compensation to the family following the fatal accident and underscores the legal process through which dependants can seek financial relief after losing a family member in a road accident.
