Gujarat Government School Teacher Arrested for Allegedly Raping Minor Student, Molesting Three Others in Amreli

Gandhinagar: A government school teacher has been arrested in Gujarat's Amreli district for allegedly sexually assaulting four girl students, including raping one of them. The alleged offences came to light after a child safety awareness programme encouraged one of the victims to inform her parents.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Rajula) Nayana Goradiya confirmed the arrest and said a case had been registered at Jafrabad Town Police Station under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and relevant rape provisions.

Child Safety Awareness Programme Helps Expose Alleged Abuse

According to police, the alleged incidents had reportedly continued for an extended period before being brought to the authorities' attention.

The Jafrabad Police Station team had been conducting awareness sessions on appropriate and inappropriate physical contact under the district's Mission Smile initiative.

During these sessions, students were educated about personal safety, recognising inappropriate behaviour and reporting abuse to trusted adults.

Police said the programme helped one of the affected students gain the confidence to disclose the alleged sexual assault to her parents.

Following the disclosure, the girl's family immediately approached the police.

Teacher Allegedly Targeted Students Inside School Staff Room

DSP Nayana Goradiya said the police team, accompanied by the station officer, visited the government school and initiated an inquiry.

During the preliminary investigation, police reportedly discovered that the accused teacher had allegedly called female students into the staff room under the pretext of asking them to prepare tea.

Investigators alleged that the teacher sexually harassed and molested students inside the room and raped one of the girls.

Police said four students were identified as alleged victims in the case.

POCSO and Rape Charges Registered

Based on the complaint and initial findings, Jafrabad Town Police Station registered a case under the POCSO Act and applicable provisions relating to rape and sexual assault.

The accused teacher was subsequently arrested and taken into police custody.

Authorities have not disclosed the identities of the affected students, in accordance with legal protections for minors involved in sexual offence cases.

Further Investigation Underway

Police are continuing their investigation into the allegations, including the circumstances in which the alleged offences occurred and the duration of the reported abuse.

The case has also highlighted the importance of child protection awareness programmes in helping students recognise inappropriate conduct and report incidents of abuse.

Further legal action will depend on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
