Punjab Police Seize Israeli-Made Uzi Guns for First Time, Arrest 16 and Recover 34 Kg Heroin in Amritsar

Chandigarh, November 5, 2026: Punjab Police have claimed a major breakthrough against suspected terror-gangster and drug trafficking networks in Amritsar, arresting 16 accused and recovering two Israeli-made Uzi submachine guns, two hand grenades and 34 kg of heroin during multiple operations.

According to police, this is the first reported recovery of Israeli-made 9-mm Uzi submachine guns in Punjab. The crackdown also resulted in the seizure of five illegal pistols and 26 live cartridges.

Israeli-Made Uzi Guns and Hand Grenades Recovered

The two Uzi submachine guns and hand grenades were recovered from three suspects in the Kot Khalsa area of Amritsar on November 4.

Inspector General of Police (Border Range) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar described the recovery as significant, stating that the presence of sophisticated weapons indicated attempts by criminal networks to acquire advanced firearms.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused were allegedly in contact with foreign-based handlers who facilitated the supply of illegal weapons to criminal elements in Punjab.

Police suspect that the handlers instructed local associates to stockpile firearms and explosives, potentially for terror-related activities, targeted killings and gang rivalries.

However, the suspected international connections and intended use of the weapons remain under investigation.

34 Kg Heroin Seized in Multiple Anti-Drug Operations

Alongside the weapons recovery, Amritsar Rural Police conducted several operations targeting drug trafficking networks in areas under Gharinda and Lopoke police stations.

Police recovered 10 kg of heroin from two accused arrested on October 29, followed by another 1 kg from two suspects.

On November 3, officers seized 10.18 kg of heroin from two additional accused.

A further 13 kg was recovered from a suspect arrested in connection with an earlier case registered at Lopoke Police Station.

Together, these operations resulted in the seizure of approximately 34 kg of heroin, according to police.

Five illegal pistols and 26 live cartridges were also confiscated during the wider crackdown.

Punjab Police Claim Three Firing Cases Solved

The Punjab Director General of Police's office announced the operation on social media platform X, stating that Amritsar Rural Police had dismantled multiple suspected illegal arms, explosives and drug trafficking networks.

Police also claimed to have solved three major cases involving firing and murders in Beas, Mehta and Chheharta.

Separate FIRs have been registered at Gharinda, Beas, Mehta, Lopoke and Chatiwind police stations.

The operations were carried out under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police (Amritsar Rural) Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal as part of the Punjab government's ongoing campaigns against organised crime and drug trafficking.

Investigation Into Foreign Handlers Continues

Investigators are now examining the suspected network's international connections, including the alleged role of foreign-based handlers in supplying weapons and coordinating criminal activities.

Police are also working to identify other individuals potentially involved in the trafficking networks.

The recoveries have raised concerns about the availability of sophisticated firearms and explosives to organised criminal groups in Punjab.

The allegations against those arrested remain subject to investigation and judicial proceedings.
