Pune Man Dies by Suicide After Alleged Online Blackmail
A 22-year-old man from Pune's Kharadi area died by suicide on October 1, 2026, after allegedly jumping from the 27th floor of a building at Riverdale Society.
According to the complaint filed by his father on October 14, the victim was allegedly subjected to repeated demands for money and threats of being implicated in a false criminal case. The family alleged that the harassment caused him severe mental distress.
Following the complaint, Kharadi Police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Additional sections of the Information Technology Act and the BNS were subsequently added during the investigation.
Fake Instagram and Telegram Accounts Used in Alleged Blackmail
During the investigation, police analysed technical evidence, including mobile phone locations and other digital information, to trace the suspects.
According to the press note, the accused allegedly created a fake Instagram account using the name of a woman who followed the Instagram page RVCJ Insta. Through the account, they reportedly contacted the victim and used video calls to record objectionable footage.
Police allege that the footage was then used to threaten the victim with exposure and a false criminal case, with the accused demanding money from him.
The investigation reportedly established that the suspects had collected approximately ₹1.77 lakh through five different bank accounts.
