The deceased officer, identified as Javed Rafiq Bagsiraj, was a resident of Morwadi in Pimpri. He collapsed during the chase after complaining of severe chest pain.

His sudden death has left his family and colleagues mourning the loss.

Police Operation Turns Tragic During Suspect Chase

According to police, the anti-narcotics squad received information that two individuals were expected to arrive in Sant Tukaram Nagar to allegedly sell MD (mephedrone), a synthetic narcotic substance.

After informing his senior officers, Bagsiraj and his team planned an operation to apprehend the suspects.

The squad intercepted the individuals near a residential society and managed to detain one suspect. However, the second suspect attempted to escape.

Bagsiraj immediately pursued the fleeing individual but experienced intense chest pain and collapsed during the chase.

His colleagues rushed him to Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) Hospital in Pimpri Chinchwad.

Despite medical attention, he reportedly suffered another cardiac arrest at the hospital and died.

Officer Had Served in Police Department Since 2010

Bagsiraj joined the Pune City Police in 2010 and initially served at Hadapsar and Mundhwa police stations for approximately eight years.

Following the establishment of the Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate in 2018, he joined the newly formed police force.

He subsequently served at Pimpri Police Station before being transferred to the Crime Branch and later the Anti-Narcotics Squad.

At the time of his death, he was actively involved in operations targeting illegal drug-related activities.

Final Rites Held With State Honours
