Pimpri-Chinchwad: Three unidentified men allegedly broke into a house in Jyotibanagar, Talawade, during the early hours of Tuesday and robbed a 60-year-old woman of gold jewellery, cash and other valuables worth approximately ₹53.70 lakh.
The incident occurred around 1 am. The victim, Bharati Maruti Bhalekar, lodged a complaint at Chikhali Police Station on the same day.
Robbers Escape With 68 Tolas of Gold
According to police, the robbers stole 68 tolas of gold jewellery valued at approximately ₹48.25 lakh and ₹5 lakh in cash.
They also took silver jewellery worth ₹30,000, a mobile phone valued at ₹10,000 and a wristwatch worth ₹5,000.
The total value of the stolen property is estimated at ₹53.70 lakh.
Accused Entered House Through Terrace
Senior Police Inspector Ranjit Jadhav said the Bhalekar family owns a property where some rooms have been rented out and part of the premises has been leased to a company.
Bharati lives on the first floor, while her son and daughter-in-law reside on the ground floor.
On Monday night, Bharati reportedly locked the first-floor living room door before going to sleep.
Police said the suspects climbed onto the terrace using an under-construction building located behind the house. They allegedly broke open the living room door and entered the first floor.
Elderly Woman Assaulted and Threatened With Knife
According to the complaint, the three men attacked Bharati while she was sleeping.
They allegedly restrained her, tied her hands and legs, covered her face with saris and assaulted her.
The suspects then threatened her with a knife before stealing the valuables and escaping.
Despite the victim's son and daughter-in-law being present on the ground floor, the robbers reportedly targeted the first floor directly.
Police Investigate Possible Prior Knowledge of Property
Police suspect the accused may have been familiar with the construction work behind the house and used the adjoining structure to access the terrace.
Investigators are examining the circumstances of the robbery and attempting to identify the three suspects.
Assistant Police Inspector Ram Gangurde is conducting the investigation under Chikhali Police Station.
