SBI Employee Allegedly Kills Wife, Sister in Lucknow Before Dying by Suicide

Lucknow: A shocking case of murder followed by suicide has emerged from Lucknow, where an SBI employee allegedly shot his wife outside her workplace before returning home and fatally shooting his sister. The man later died by suicide, according to police.

The incident reportedly took place in the Gomti Nagar area on Thursday. The accused, identified as 38-year-old Manas Vajpayee, allegedly called his wife, Divya Mishra, outside the ICICI Bank branch where she worked. After speaking with her for a few minutes, he reportedly opened fire and fled the spot.

Divya was rushed to a hospital following the shooting, but doctors declared her dead. Police said the couple had been married for around 12 years but had been living separately for more than a year. Reports indicate that Divya had also initiated divorce proceedings.

Police further alleged that Manas later returned to his residence, where he shot his 28-year-old sister, Shiva Vajpayee. He subsequently died by suicide.

The case took another disturbing turn after a WhatsApp status allegedly posted by Manas surfaced before his death. The status reportedly referred to the deaths of his wife and sister and also named other individuals. Police are examining the post as part of the investigation.

A local shopkeeper reportedly told investigators that Manas returned home around midday and appeared distressed and hurried. After noticing the WhatsApp status, the neighbour reportedly entered the house and found him dead.

Divya’s sister, Pragya Mishra, also reportedly appealed for help on social media shortly after learning that her sister had been shot. Her name was subsequently mentioned in the WhatsApp status attributed to Manas.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shootings, the couple’s marital dispute and the events that preceded the deaths. The exact motive and sequence of events will be established through the ongoing investigation.
