New Delhi: India has intensified its relief efforts for flood-ravaged Nepal, sending a second consignment of emergency supplies as rescue teams continue searching for people missing after devastating flash floods along the Nepal-Tibet border.

An Indian military transport aircraft carrying 37.5 tonnes of humanitarian assistance and disaster relief material, including medicines and food packets, was dispatched to Nepal on Thursday. The shipment follows an earlier consignment of 10 tonnes of relief material sent a day earlier.

The disaster has caused widespread destruction in Nepal’s Rasuwa region after a sudden surge linked to an avalanche or glacial collapse affected the Lhende tributary of the Bhotekoshi River. The floodwaters swept through areas near Timure and Rasuwagadhi, damaging roads, bridges and other infrastructure.

The situation remains fluid, with casualty and missing-person figures changing as authorities continue to verify information. Reports on Thursday put the death toll at more than 160 in Nepal, while hundreds of people remained unaccounted for. Indian nationals are also among those missing, with the latest government-linked reports putting the number at 288 Indians still out of contact, while 21 missing Indians had been rescued.

India is coordinating with Nepalese authorities to assist in rescue and relief operations. The additional supplies are expected to support emergency response efforts as teams work through difficult terrain and damaged infrastructure.
