Delhi High Court, IGI Airport and Other Sensitive Locations Receive Bomb Threats Ahead of Independence Day

The Delhi High Court received a bomb threat through email on Friday, triggering a security alert in the national capital a day before Independence Day.

The email reportedly carried the subject line “30 MB Blast at the Delhi High Court” and claimed that an explosion would take place at 2:11 pm.

Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) Joint Secretary Kunal Malhotra said the threat appeared to be fake. He added that all necessary precautions had been taken and security measures were put in place following the threat.

Multiple Locations Receive Threats

According to the Delhi Fire Service, bomb threat calls were also received for several other locations, including Jamnagar House, Jhandewalan Flatted Factory Complex, MB Saket Office/DM Office, Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport and the SDM Office in Delhi Cantt.

Fire tenders were dispatched to the reported locations as part of the emergency response. Security agencies carried out checks to determine whether there was any genuine threat.

The latest threats come amid heightened security arrangements across Delhi ahead of Independence Day celebrations on August 15.

Security Tightened Across Delhi

Security has been increased at strategic locations across the capital, with police personnel deployed at important points and additional checks being conducted at entry and exit routes.

Security agencies are also maintaining a close watch on public places and locations expected to see increased movement ahead of Independence Day.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address the nation from the Red Fort on August 15 as part of the Independence Day celebrations.

Delhi Has Received Similar Threats Previously

The latest incident comes days after the Office of the Delhi Mayor received a bomb threat on August 3. According to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, it was the eighth such threat received by the Mayor's Office.

The threat was reportedly sent through an anonymous email at around 9:07 am and claimed that a bomb would explode at 2:11 pm. The Mayor's Office immediately informed the Delhi Police and concerned security agencies, following which security protocols were activated.

On the same day, multiple schools across Delhi also received bomb threats, prompting security checks by the police. Authorities later reported that no suspicious objects were found during the inspections.

Earlier, on July 31, the Gurugram Deputy Commissioner's office, Haryana courts and several schools received bomb threat emails. The threats were subsequently found to be hoaxes, following security checks involving bomb disposal and dog squads.

Authorities continue to maintain heightened vigilance across Delhi and other sensitive locations ahead of Independence Day.
