Pune's Iconic MH-12 Vehicle Registration Series Nears Exhaustion; New Code Likely Soon
Pune's iconic MH-12 vehicle registration series is reportedly nearing its limit as the city's rapidly growing number of vehicles has almost exhausted all available registration combinations. While several reports suggest that a new registration code may soon be introduced, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) has not yet made any official announcement.

Pune's Beloved MH-12 Registration Series May Soon Become History
The MH-12 vehicle registration code, long regarded as a symbol of Pune's identity, is reportedly close to being exhausted due to the city's continuous rise in vehicle registrations.
According to reports, nearly all registration combinations, including those ending with the 'ZZ' series, have almost been allocated. As Pune continues to witness rapid growth in private vehicles, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) is expected to introduce a new registration series once the existing one is fully exhausted.
What Could Replace MH-12?
Although several reports have speculated that codes such as MH-54 or other alternatives are under consideration, the authorities have not issued any official confirmation. The final decision on Pune's next vehicle registration code is still awaited.
More Than Just a Registration Number
For decades, MH-12 has represented more than a vehicle registration code—it has become a part of Pune's identity and pride. From two-wheelers to luxury cars, the registration number has been closely associated with the city's heritage and its residents.
As the existing series reaches its limit, many Punekars are curious to know whether a completely new registration code will replace MH-12 or if the administration will adopt another solution.
An official announcement from the transport authorities is expected once a final decision is taken. Until then, MH-12 remains one of Pune's most recognizable symbols on the road.
