Pune Police Probe Alleged Defamatory Social Media Posts Targeting Rupali Chakankar
Former Maharashtra State Commission for Women chairperson Rupali Chakankar has approached Pune Police over allegedly defamatory and obscene social media content. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the posts, comments and accounts involved.
Pune: Pune Police have registered a case following a complaint by former Maharashtra State Commission for Women chairperson Rupali Chakankar over allegedly false, misleading, obscene and defamatory content circulated about her on social media.
According to the complaint, after reports emerged in March 2026 about the arrest of a person in a rape case, photographs and videos featuring Chakankar at public events were allegedly circulated on social media alongside unrelated claims and allegations. Chakankar has alleged that such posts were intended to damage her public image.
The complaint reportedly mentions content shared through platforms including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and X. She also alleged that several users posted abusive, obscene and defamatory comments in response to the posts.
Chakankar told police that the circulation of the content affected her social reputation and caused mental distress. She submitted screenshots of the posts, comments and other material to support her complaint.
Police have registered a case and are examining the social media accounts, posts and comments referred to in the complaint. Investigators are also working to establish the source of the allegedly defamatory content and identify those responsible.
