Pune: Marathi actor Ramesh Pardeshi, popularly known as "Pithya Bhai," has expressed concern over Pune's rapid urbanisation, increasing commercialisation, and changing residential landscape through a Facebook post titled "Generation X." His remarks have sparked a discussion on social media about the city's future development.
Concerns Over Changing Neighbourhoods
In his post, Pardeshi said that peaceful localities such as Prabhat Road and Bhandarkar Road are gradually losing their residential character due to increasing commercial activities and large-scale construction.
He wrote that if the current pace of development continues, residents may have to "go to the moon to find peace," highlighting his concern over the city's shrinking quiet spaces.
Questions Over High-Rise Approvals
The actor questioned why 10 to 12-storey buildings are being approved in areas that were once dominated by single-storey bungalows. He urged public representatives and authorities to take urban planning more seriously and ensure balanced development.
Calls for Better City Planning
Pardeshi suggested that high-rise residential projects should be permitted only on larger land parcels, while commercial projects should not be allowed in purely residential neighbourhoods.
He also warned that unchecked population growth could lead to water shortages, shrinking green spaces, and increased pressure on civic infrastructure in the coming years.
Highlights Waste Management Issues
Apart from urban planning, Pardeshi also raised concerns about Pune's waste management system. He stressed the need to create greater public awareness and called for strict penalties against those who litter public places.
Social Media Reaction
His Facebook post has generated widespread discussion online, with many citizens supporting his views and calling for sustainable, well-planned development to preserve Pune's identity while accommodating future growth.
