Pune Yerwada Jail Road Potholes: Pune Panther Sena Protest by Sitting in Pothole
Large potholes on Pune's Yerwada Jail Road have become a major concern for motorists and pedestrians. To draw the Pune Municipal Corporation's attention to the issue, Pune Panther Sena president Sachin Bhosale staged a symbolic protest by sitting inside a pothole and reading a newspaper. He questioned the civic administration over the condition of the busy road and warned of a stronger agitation if the potholes are not repaired immediately.
Pune: Large and reportedly dangerous potholes on Yerwada Jail Road have sparked a protest by the Pune Panther Sena, with its president Sachin Bhosale sitting inside one of the potholes and reading a newspaper to highlight what he described as the Pune Municipal Corporation's failure to address the problem.
According to the organisation, several potholes have appeared at different points along the busy road, while one particularly large pothole has reportedly remained unrepaired for several months.
The protest was intended to draw the attention of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to the potential danger faced by motorists and pedestrians travelling along the route.
Busy Road With Heavy Traffic
Yerwada Jail Road is an important and heavily used route in Pune. The area includes Yerwada Central Prison, a mental health hospital, a post office and several IT companies in the Commerce Zone, resulting in significant movement of vehicles, employees and local residents.
The protestors said that the continued presence of a large pothole on such an important road raises questions about the civic administration's monitoring and road maintenance efforts.
'Administration Cannot See Such a Large Pothole?'
Speaking during the protest, Sachin Bhosale took a sarcastic dig at the civic administration by sitting inside the pothole and reading a newspaper.
He questioned how such a large pothole could remain unnoticed despite the heavy traffic on the road.
Bhosale also claimed that the PMC's reported figure of only 54 remaining potholes in the city does not reflect the situation on the ground.
Question Over Road Inspection
Bhosale further questioned the administration's road inspection process.
He referred to reports that PMC officials had been instructed to inspect roads using two-wheelers instead of four-wheelers so that potholes could be identified more effectively.
“If officials are inspecting roads on two-wheelers, how can such large potholes still go unnoticed?” he questioned.
Warning of Stronger Agitation
The Pune Panther Sena has urged the civic administration to immediately inspect the entire stretch of Yerwada Jail Road and repair the dangerous potholes.
Bhosale warned that the administration should not wait for a serious accident or loss of life before taking action.
He said that if the potholes are not repaired promptly, the Pune Panther Sena will launch a strong protest against the civic administration.
The protest has once again brought Pune's road conditions and the recurring issue of potholes into focus, particularly on roads carrying heavy daily traffic.
