Pune PMC to Hold Key Meeting With Railways, Defence Ministry Over HCMTR and Inner Ring Road Land
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to hold a crucial coordination meeting with senior officials from the Railways and Ministry of Defence to discuss the handover of land required for the High Capacity Mass Transit Route (HCMTR) and the proposed Inner Ring Road. The projects are aimed at easing Pune's growing traffic congestion.
PMC to Discuss Land Handover
The PMC is scheduled to meet senior officials from the Railways and Ministry of Defence next week to address the availability and handover of key land parcels required for the two major infrastructure projects.
The civic body has deployed dedicated teams to speed up preliminary land requirement proposals ahead of the inter-departmental discussions.
HCMTR to Cover Around 43 Km
The proposed HCMTR is planned as a 24-metre-wide elevated inner ring road stretching approximately 43 km through several central areas of Pune.
The project is being positioned as a major transport corridor aimed at reducing congestion on existing roads and improving connectivity across the city.
83-Km Inner Ring Road Also Planned
Alongside the HCMTR, the proposed 65-metre-wide Inner Ring Road will cover around 83 km, primarily passing through Pune's peripheral areas.
The corridor is intended to streamline traffic movement around the city's rapidly developing outskirts and reduce pressure on existing routes.
22 Hectares of Land Need Clearance
One of the key challenges is securing the required clear zones for the HCMTR. According to the report, approximately 22 hectares of government, forest and defence land need to be cleared for the HCMTR loop.
PMC officials said discussions with central government agencies are being pushed proactively to avoid bureaucratic delays in taking possession of the required land parcels.
HCMTR and Metro Projects to Intersect
PMC has also held discussions with Maha Metro regarding coordination between the proposed HCMTR and Metro expansion plans.
The two elevated transport projects are expected to intersect at around eight locations in Pune. A section along Sinhagad Road is also expected to be shared by both projects.
Officials said the underlying viaducts and support pillars could be jointly designed at overlapping locations to save space, while construction and execution of the two projects would remain separate.
Detailed Project Reports Under Preparation
Maha Metro has reportedly presented the full geometric configurations of the newly proposed corridors to PMC.
Meanwhile, work is underway to finalise the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for the upcoming mass-transit routes.
With land acquisition and inter-departmental coordination emerging as key hurdles, the upcoming meeting is expected to play an important role in moving the major Pune infrastructure projects forward.
