PMC Fines Road-Cleaning Contractor ₹6 Lakh After 600 Workers Found Absent
PMC has fined L.V.G. Facilities India Pvt. Ltd. ₹6 lakh after inspections in Wanowrie-Ramtekdi and Bibwewadi found no sanitation workers on duty at the inspected locations. The contractor was assigned 600 workers across the two areas. Additional Municipal Commissioner Prajit Nair has directed the ward offices to recover the penalty.
Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has imposed a ₹6 lakh penalty on L.V.G. Facilities India Pvt. Ltd. after inspections revealed that none of the 600 sanitation workers assigned to road-cleaning duties in two ward areas were present at the inspected locations. Several roads remained uncleaned, with garbage accumulating at multiple spots.
The action was ordered by Additional Municipal Commissioner Prajit Nair following inspections in the Wanowrie-Ramtekdi and Bibwewadi ward office areas. Both areas are covered under the PMC's performance-based road-cleaning project.
₹2.75 Lakh Fine in Wanowrie-Ramtekdi
During an inspection conducted by the Deputy Commissioner of the Solid Waste Management Department, roads near Galaxy Apartment, Sunshine Classic and Brahma Avenue Road in Kondhwa were found to be uncleaned.
Garbage heaps and several locations with recurring waste accumulation were also observed.
The contractor had been assigned 275 sanitation workers for the area. However, none were found working at the inspected locations. PMC subsequently imposed a penalty of ₹2.75 lakh for cleaning work left undone across 275 designated beats.
Another ₹3.25 Lakh Penalty in Bibwewadi
A similar situation was observed during an inspection of Indrani Randive Road under the Bibwewadi ward office.
The contractor was responsible for deploying 325 sanitation workers in the area, but none were found on duty during the inspection.
PMC imposed an additional penalty of ₹3.25 lakh for the cleaning work left incomplete across 325 beats.
Three-Month Pilot Project Under Scrutiny
The PMC had awarded road-cleaning work in both ward areas to L.V.G. Facilities India Pvt. Ltd. under a three-month pilot project that began on August 1, 2026.
The performance-based initiative was introduced to improve road-cleaning standards and strengthen contractor accountability.
Following the inspections, the concerned ward offices have been instructed to recover the full ₹6 lakh penalty from the contractor immediately.
PMC stated that the penalties were imposed according to the prescribed procedure and that the inspections were intended to ensure contractors deploy the required workforce and maintain cleanliness across the city.
