Pune Teen Missing for Three Days Found Dead in Riverbed; Family Seeks Detailed Probe
A 17-year-old Tadiwala Road resident, Shivkumar Babu Vakarani, was found dead in a riverbed three days after he went missing from Pune's Bund Garden Police Station area. Pune: A 17-year-old boy who had been missing from the Bund Garden Police Station area for three days was found dead in a riverbed under the jurisdiction of Chandannagar Police on Tuesday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Shivkumar Babu Vakarani, aged 17 years and seven months, a resident of Tadiwala Road in Pune.
Teen Went Missing on September 26
According to preliminary information, Shivkumar left his home between 10 pm and 11 pm on September 26 and did not return.
After he remained untraceable, his mother approached Bund Garden Police and alleged that an unidentified person had lured her son away. Police subsequently registered a case and initiated a search for the teenager.
The search continued for three days.
Body Found in Riverbed
At around 8:30 am on Tuesday, Chandannagar Police found the body of an unidentified boy in a riverbed within their jurisdiction.
Police initiated inquiries to establish the deceased's identity. The body was subsequently identified as that of Shivkumar.
His body was sent to Sassoon General Hospital for further procedures and a post-mortem examination. The exact cause and circumstances of his death have not yet been established.
Family Questions Search Operation
Following the discovery, Shivkumar's relatives raised questions over the police response after he was reported missing.
The family alleged that adequate efforts were not made to trace him during the three days following his disappearance. They have demanded a detailed investigation into their allegation that someone had taken Shivkumar away, as well as the circumstances that led to his death.
The relatives have also demanded that anyone found responsible be identified and arrested. They have reportedly said they will not accept Shivkumar's body until arrests are made.
Police officials, however, have maintained that the investigation is being carried out properly.
Investigators are awaiting the post-mortem report, which is expected to provide crucial information about the cause of Shivkumar's death. Further investigation is underway.
