Expired Pune Metro Cards to Be Replaced; Unused Balance to Get Relief

Pune: Pune Metro commuters who have been unable to use their old cards after expiry may soon get a much-needed relief. Maha Metro is set to provide a replacement facility for expired Pune Metro cards from next week, allowing eligible passengers to approach a nearby metro station and initiate the reissuance process.

The development is significant for commuters who had money loaded onto their cards but could not use the balance after the cards reached the end of their validity. Instead of being forced to purchase a fresh card without access to the previous balance, passengers will now have a formal mechanism to get their expired cards replaced.

The issue had been raised by the Erandwane Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal, which highlighted the difficulties faced by commuters whose metro cards were issued several years ago. Since One Pune Cards have a defined validity period, a number of older cards have either already expired or are approaching their renewal date.

According to Maha Metro's official information, the One Pune Card is valid for three years from the date of issue or until the final date of the validity month mentioned on the card. The system also provides for card renewal and reissuance through Pune Metro station counters.

The latest development is particularly relevant ahead of Ganeshotsav, when Pune Metro is preparing for a sharp increase in passenger numbers. Maha Metro has announced that trains on its operational corridors will run at shorter intervals during peak hours during the festival to handle the expected rush.

For passengers, the key advantage of the new arrangement is convenience. Those holding expired cards can approach a Pune Metro station counter rather than simply abandoning the old card and purchasing another one. Maha Metro's official information confirms that card replacement services are available through station counters.

The move also comes at a time when the metro is attempting to make travel more convenient as ridership expands. Apart from increasing train frequency for the festive period, Maha Metro is working on measures to manage crowd movement and improve the overall passenger experience.

Commuters whose cards are nearing expiry should therefore check the validity printed on their card and approach a Pune Metro station counter for renewal or reissuance. Passengers with expired cards should also confirm the applicable procedure and charges at the counter before completing the replacement.

For Pune's growing metro user base, the move is expected to remove one more hurdle from daily travel and ensure that older cardholders have a clearer route to continue using the metro's prepaid card system.
