Pune: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has taken strict action against unhygienic food establishments in Pune by suspending the licences of 10 bakeries, dairies, and restaurants, including the well-known Golden Bakery and Indian Bakery.
The action follows surprise inspections conducted on Thursday and Friday across various parts of the city. During the inspections, FDA officials found several serious violations of the Food Safety and Standards Act, prompting immediate suspension of the licences.
According to the authorities, inspectors observed highly unhygienic food preparation areas, improper disposal of wastewater, poor sanitation practices, and multiple breaches of mandatory food safety norms. Officials stated that these violations posed a potential risk to public health.
The crackdown was carried out under the directions of Food Safety Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe as part of an ongoing effort to strengthen food safety and ensure that food businesses maintain proper hygiene standards.
The FDA has clarified that the affected establishments will not be allowed to resume operations until they implement all the corrective measures recommended by the department and fully comply with the prescribed food safety regulations.
The action serves as a strong warning to food businesses across Pune that maintaining hygiene and adhering to food safety standards is mandatory to safeguard the health of consumers.
The FDA has also urged citizens to report any unhygienic food establishments and encouraged food business operators to strictly follow the Food Safety and Standards Act to ensure safe and hygienic food for the public.
