Pune, November 3, 2026: Dengue cases in Pune have witnessed a sharp increase, with the city reporting 843 confirmed infections in October, the highest monthly figure recorded so far in 2026. According to Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) health officials, the total number of confirmed dengue cases reached 2,486 between January 1 and October 30.

The rising number of infections has raised public health concerns, particularly in residential areas reporting consistently high dengue cases.

Pune Records Steady Rise in Dengue Cases Since July

PMC data indicates that dengue infections have increased steadily over the past four months.

The city recorded 366 confirmed cases in July, followed by 512 in August and 662 in September. October witnessed a further rise, with 843 confirmed cases.

The latest figures represent an increase of approximately 27% compared with September, making October the worst month for dengue infections in Pune so far this year.

The continued rise highlights the importance of mosquito-control measures and preventive action across affected neighbourhoods.

Aundh-Baner Reports Highest Dengue Cases in October

Aundh-Baner emerged as the most affected ward during October, reporting 152 confirmed dengue cases.

Yerawada-Wadgaonsheri recorded 110 infections, while Dhankawadi-Sahakarnagar reported 92 cases.

Keshavnagar registered 74 cases, followed by Kothrud with 73 and Ahmednagar Road-Wagholi with 71.

The distribution of cases indicates that dengue infections have affected several residential and commercial areas across Pune rather than remaining concentrated in one locality.

Aundh-Baner, Kothrud Among Worst-Affected Areas in 2026

According to cumulative PMC figures from January 1 to October 30, Aundh-Baner has recorded the highest number of confirmed dengue cases at 364.

Kothrud follows with 302 infections, while Ahmednagar Road-Wagholi has reported 293 cases.

Yerawada-Wadgaonsheri has registered 247 cases, followed by Dhankawadi-Sahakarnagar with 231.

These figures highlight the significant dengue burden across multiple municipal wards during the first ten months of 2026.

PMC Records 2,372 Suspected Dengue Cases

Apart from confirmed infections, the PMC Insect Control Department has maintained separate records of suspected dengue cases.

According to the department's report, Pune recorded 709 suspected dengue cases during October, taking the cumulative suspected-case count to 2,372 for the year.

These suspected cases are reported separately from laboratory-confirmed infections and should not be added to the confirmed total without accounting for possible overlap.

Residents Urged to Take Mosquito Prevention Measures

Dengue is transmitted primarily through infected Aedes mosquitoes, which commonly breed in stagnant water collected in containers, flowerpots, discarded tyres and other water-holding objects.

Residents can reduce breeding sites by regularly emptying and cleaning water containers, covering stored water and removing stagnant water around homes.

People experiencing symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, body pain, nausea or unusual bleeding should seek medical attention promptly.

With dengue cases increasing across several Pune neighbourhoods, preventive measures and early medical consultation remain important for reducing the risk of severe illness.
