Pune: A Pune connection has emerged in an alleged Rs 2,143-crore financial scam involving the suspected use of fake certificates and shell companies. The Income Tax Department is reportedly investigating suspicious transactions worth around Rs 200 crore that were routed through a private bank branch in Pune.

According to preliminary findings, around Rs 200 crore was allegedly transferred overseas through the Pune branch using transactions linked to fake and shell companies. Investigators are now examining the source and destination of the funds and whether senior bank officials or board members were aware of the transactions.

The probe follows a police complaint filed by officials from the Income Tax Investigation Department. Authorities are also investigating the alleged role of chartered accountant Shyam Kalani, who is suspected of being a key figure in the financial network.

Kalani has reportedly surrendered before the Udgir police. Investigators are expected to question him about the alleged transactions, the companies involved and individuals who may have facilitated the movement of funds.

Pune Bank Transactions Under Scanner

The Pune-based private bank branch is expected to remain a key focus of the investigation. Officials are examining the companies associated with the transactions, the movement of funds overseas and the possible involvement of individuals within or outside the banking system.

The wider investigation is also looking into suspicious banking transactions in Bengaluru, Chandigarh and the Delhi-NCR region.

The alleged scam involves the suspected misuse of certificates and financial mechanisms to facilitate large-scale transactions through shell entities. The exact nature of the transactions, the extent of the alleged irregularities and the roles of the individuals and companies involved are yet to be established.

Investigators are expected to question Kalani following his surrender, which could provide further leads into the alleged financial network and its Pune connection. The role of bank officials and other individuals, if any, will be determined as the investigation progresses.
