Two Dead, 12 Injured in Multi-Vehicle Crash Near Jambhulwadi
Two people died and 12 were injured, including three seriously, after a truck allegedly hit an Eicher tempo from behind near Jambhulwadi on the Pune-Bengaluru Highway. The impact led to a multi-vehicle collision involving an Ertiga and a Tata Altroz.
Pune: Two people were killed and 12 others injured in a major multi-vehicle collision on the Pune-Bengaluru Highway near Jambhulwadi in the early hours of Sunday, September 13.
According to Ambegaon Police, the accident occurred around 12.10 am near Laxmi Lodge, close to Dari Bridge. An Ashok Leyland truck travelling from Satara towards Pune allegedly hit an Eicher tempo truck from behind.
The impact caused the vehicles to leave their lane and move towards the opposite carriageway, where the Eicher truck subsequently collided with a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and a Tata Altroz. The Eicher, Ertiga and Altroz suffered extensive damage in the crash.
Two victims, identified as Hridaynath Mohan Gaikwad (47), a resident of Jogeshwari East in Mumbai, and Anandibai Ramchandra Wadkar (50), a resident of Nerul in Navi Mumbai, died while undergoing treatment.
A total of 12 people sustained injuries, with three reported to be in serious condition. The injured were admitted to Bharati Hospital, Morya Hospital, Silver Birch Hospital and Shreyas Hospital for treatment.
Police and emergency teams cleared the accident site and restored traffic movement on the highway.
Ambegaon Police have registered CR No. 392/2026 under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Motor Vehicles Act.
Police have identified the Ashok Leyland truck driver as Pramod Vitthal Wagh (40) and the vehicle owner as Sandeep Gorakh Suryavanshi (45), both residents of Khatav taluka in Satara district. The vehicle owner has been taken into custody, while further investigation into the circumstances of the crash is underway.
