Pistol Accidentally Fires While Being Handled, Bullet Hits Friend’s Thigh; One Arrested
A pistol accidentally fired while being handled by youths in Pune’s Ambegaon Pathar area, hitting 30-year-old Sunny Deepak in the thigh. Police arrested 19-year-old Avinash More, while the alleged pistol holder, Sanket Chorghe, remains absconding. Three people have been booked under the Arms Act, and police are investigating the source of the firearm and possible involvement of others.

Pune: A shocking incident was reported from the Ambegaon Pathar area of Pune after a pistol allegedly went off accidentally while being handled by a group of youths late at night. A 30-year-old man sustained a bullet injury to his thigh and was rushed to a hospital for treatment.
According to police, the incident took place at around 12:30 am near Sai Siddhi Chowk in Ambegaon Pathar. Three youths — Sanket Goraksh Chorghe, Sunny alias Sandeep Subhash Deepak, and Avinash Dadaso More — had reportedly gathered in the area.
Police said that Sanket Chorghe allegedly showed a pistol to the others. Avinash More then reportedly handled the firearm. Later, while Sunny Deepak was handling the pistol, the trigger was accidentally pressed, causing the weapon to fire.
The bullet struck Sunny Deepak, aged 30, a resident of Five Star Society in Dhankawadi, in the thigh. Following the incident, Sanket Chorghe allegedly fled from the spot. Avinash More reportedly took the injured Sunny to a hospital, where doctors treated him. Hospital authorities subsequently informed Bharati Vidyapeeth Police about the shooting incident.
After receiving the information, police reached the hospital and questioned the injured man. During the inquiry, details of the alleged accidental firing while handling the pistol came to light.
One arrested, three booked
Police have arrested 19-year-old Avinash Dadaso More, a resident of Dattanagar, Dhankawadi. A case has been registered against Sanket Chorghe, Sunny Deepak and Avinash More under provisions of the Arms Act.
Police are currently searching for Sanket Chorghe, who allegedly fled after the incident.
Investigation underway
Investigators are also trying to determine how the pistol came into the group’s possession, where it was obtained from, and whether anyone else was involved in the case.
According to police, Sanket Chorghe had allegedly been involved in previous criminal cases. The Anti-Extortion Unit had reportedly arrested him under the Arms Act in February 2026, when a country-made pistol and cartridges were allegedly recovered from him. Pune Rural Police had also previously taken action against him in connection with alleged illegal possession of a firearm.
Further investigation is being conducted by Assistant Police Inspector Pawar.
