Bay of Bengal Depression Intensifies Monsoon; Heavy Rain Alert Issued Across Maharashtra

Maharashtra is likely to witness widespread rainfall over the next few days as a depression over the Bay of Bengal strengthens monsoon activity across the State.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts, with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds expected in parts of Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, and adjoining regions.

Orange Alert for Pune

Pune has been placed under an Orange Alert, indicating the likelihood of heavy rainfall that may lead to waterlogging, traffic congestion, and disruptions in low-lying areas.

The ghat sections of Pune are expected to receive particularly intense rainfall, and authorities have advised residents to remain cautious while travelling through hilly regions.

Several Districts Likely to Receive Heavy Rain

Apart from Pune, heavy rainfall is expected across parts of Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, and nearby districts. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds are also forecast in isolated places.

The enhanced rainfall activity is being driven by the Bay of Bengal weather system, which has strengthened the southwest monsoon over western India.

Authorities Issue Public Advisory

Residents have been advised to:

•Avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall.

•Stay away from rivers, streams, and waterlogged areas.

•Exercise caution while driving, especially in ghat sections.

•Follow official weather updates and local administration advisories.

Emergency services and local authorities remain on alert to respond to any rain-related incidents.

Monsoon Activity Expected to Continue

According to the IMD, active monsoon conditions are likely to persist over Maharashtra in the coming days, with intermittent heavy showers expected across several regions before rainfall gradually eases later in the week. Citizens are advised to stay updated with the latest forecasts and take necessary precautions.
