Jabalpur, November 4, 2026: The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Wednesday rejected the bail application of former district judge Giribala Singh in connection with the alleged suicide of her daughter-in-law, Twisha Sharma, citing the seriousness of the allegations and the ongoing investigation.
A single bench of Justice Ajay Kumar Nirankari declined to grant bail, observing that crucial forensic examination results and digital evidence extraction reports were still awaited.
High Court Cites Pending Forensic and Digital Reports
The court delivered its decision after hearing arguments from both the defence and prosecution, which concluded on October 26.
In its 23-page order, the High Court considered the circumstances surrounding Twisha Sharma's death, the evidence collected by investigators and the nature of the allegations against the accused.
The court specifically referred to CCTV footage, post-mortem findings and the circumstances immediately preceding Sharma's death.
Justice Nirankari observed that further investigation under Section 193(9) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) remained in progress.
With important forensic and digital extraction reports yet to be received, the court concluded that granting bail at this stage would not be appropriate.
Former District Judge Denied Bail at Current Stage
The High Court's decision means that Giribala Singh will not be released on bail under the application considered by the court.
The order emphasised that the seriousness of the allegations, the available investigative material and the pending examination of crucial evidence warranted rejecting the request.
Advocate Anurag Shrivastava, representing Twisha Sharma's family, confirmed that the 23-page order had been uploaded by the High Court on Wednesday evening.
The court's decision concerns Singh's eligibility for bail at this stage and does not constitute a determination of guilt.
Investigation Into Twisha Sharma's Death Continues
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Twisha Sharma's alleged suicide remains ongoing.
Authorities are awaiting forensic findings and digital extraction reports, which could provide additional information relevant to the case.
The High Court's refusal to grant bail highlights the importance placed on completing the pending investigative procedures before reconsidering the accused's release.
Further developments will depend on the progress of the investigation and subsequent legal proceedings.
