Pune: Pune residents may soon get a major boost to public transport, as the much-awaited Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar Metro Line 3 is likely to commence operations from August 15. However, the project is still awaiting final approval from the Maharashtra government, and an official launch date is yet to be announced.
According to officials, the first phase of the metro service will operate between Maan and Balewadi. The remaining stretch from Baner High Street to Shivajinagar is expected to be opened in the next phase.
The metro corridor has already received safety clearance from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), clearing a major regulatory hurdle. The only step remaining before operations begin is the state's final approval.
Once operational, the metro is expected to significantly improve connectivity for thousands of daily commuters, particularly employees working in Hinjawadi IT Park, one of Pune's largest technology hubs. The project is also expected to reduce traffic congestion on one of the city's busiest corridors while offering a faster, safer, and more comfortable mode of transport.
Although August 15 is being considered as the likely launch date, authorities have not yet made an official announcement. The inauguration date will be confirmed only after the Maharashtra government grants its final approval.
