Hinjawadi IT Park Traffic Crisis: IT Professionals Write to CM, Seek Time-Bound Action on Roads and Infrastructure
IT professionals and residents of Pune’s Hinjawadi-Mahalunge-Maan area have again raised concerns over traffic congestion, inadequate roads, poor street lighting and heavy vehicle movement. The Mahalunge-Maan Township Residents’ Association has now written to the Maharashtra Chief Minister seeking a time-bound action plan and clear deadlines for infrastructure projects.
Pune: The growing traffic and infrastructure problems around Hinjawadi IT Park have once again come into focus, with IT professionals and local residents demanding urgent and time-bound action from the authorities.
Residents of the Mahalunge-Maan area, which has witnessed rapid residential development due to its proximity to Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park in Hinjawadi, have raised concerns over daily traffic congestion, inadequate roads, insufficient street lighting and the movement of heavy vehicles.
According to the Mahalunge-Maan Township Residents’ Association, traffic congestion becomes particularly severe during office hours as well as school arrival and dispersal times. The situation affects IT employees, students, parents, senior citizens, local residents and emergency services.
The association had earlier taken part in a protest on August 22 over these civic issues. Residents said municipal officials had provided written assurances regarding action, but they are still awaiting an official copy and a clear implementation schedule.
Residents seek development of key roads
The residents have demanded immediate development of a 24-metre road proposed under the regional plan or a 36-metre road proposed under the Mahalunge-Maan Town Planning Scheme.
They have also sought early commencement of work on the Sus–Mahalunge–Hinjawadi road. The association has asked authorities to provide residents with details regarding the start date, phase-wise work schedule, expected completion date and funds available for the projects.
Until the planned roads are completed, residents have demanded that at least 10 traffic wardens be deployed during peak hours to improve traffic management.
Letter sent to Chief Minister
The residents’ association has now approached the Chief Minister’s Office, seeking a long-term traffic management plan for Mahalunge-Maan.
Their demands include implementation of planned roads, development of alternative routes, better junction management, improved pedestrian safety and stronger traffic management around schools. The association has indicated that another protest could be held if the municipal administration does not take time-bound action.
The concerns come shortly after thousands of IT professionals and residents participated in a silent protest in Hinjawadi over poor infrastructure and traffic problems. At the time, Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi said ₹426 crore had been approved for infrastructure work in the Hinjawadi IT Park area, with priority works targeted before the next monsoon and other works within about 18 months.
The Maan–Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar Metro Line 3 is also being developed to address traffic problems in the Hinjawadi IT Park and nearby areas, according to PMRDA.
