Delhi HC Declines Interim Relief On Sonam Wangchuk's Hospital Transfer Plea; Activist Calls July 20 March India's 'Second Freedom Movement'
The Delhi High Court has refused to grant interim relief on a plea filed by Gitanjali Angmo, wife of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, seeking his transfer from Safdarjung Hospital to a private hospital. The court accepted the Centre's submission that the transfer to Safdarjung was a medical decision. Meanwhile, Wangchuk has urged supporters to participate in the July 20 Parliament march, calling it India's "second freedom movement."
New Delhi, July 19: The Delhi High Court on Saturday declined to grant interim relief on a petition filed by Gitanjali Angmo, wife of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, seeking his transfer from Safdarjung Hospital to a private hospital of the family's choice.
The court accepted the Centre's argument that Wangchuk's admission to Safdarjung Hospital was based solely on medical advice and was not an arbitrary decision by the government. Consequently, the High Court did not order his transfer at this stage.
Earlier, Gitanjali Angmo had approached the court stating that she had "lost faith" in the treatment being provided at Safdarjung Hospital. She requested that Wangchuk be shifted to a private medical facility before his health deteriorates further.
Angmo also said that the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) related to Wangchuk's health had been misinterpreted. She maintained that his condition was stable and asserted that there was no need for government intervention regarding his medical treatment.
Meanwhile, Sonam Wangchuk appealed to supporters ahead of the proposed Parliament march on July 20, describing it as India's "second freedom movement." He said the movement is aimed at securing "freedom from fear" and "freedom from injustice" and urged people across the country to participate peacefully and make the mobilisation a success.
The latest developments come as Wangchuk's hunger strike continues to draw national attention, with supporters closely following both his health condition and the legal proceedings surrounding his treatment.
