Amit Thackeray, 20–25 Others Booked Over Pune Polytechnic Row

Pune: A political dispute at Pune’s Government Polytechnic has now turned into a police case, with MNS leader Amit Raj Thackeray and around 20 to 25 others booked following an incident at the institute in Ganeshkhind.
According to the police complaint, Thackeray and a group of MNS functionaries, students and supporters entered the institute premises on August 31 and went to the office of a college official. The complaint alleges that the group entered without permission and removed a photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that was displayed in the office.
The incident took place during Thackeray’s visit to the polytechnic, where he was inspecting hostel and mess facilities and raising concerns over issues faced by students. Reports said the removal of the photograph subsequently triggered a political controversy.
A complaint was filed by government polytechnic staff member Dr Rajendra Kashiram Patil at the Chaturshringi police station. Based on the complaint, police registered a case against Thackeray and the other alleged participants under provisions relating to unauthorized entry and unlawful assembly, along with relevant provisions of the Maharashtra Police Act.
The police investigation is now underway to establish the exact sequence of events and determine the role of those named in the complaint. The case comes amid a wider political dispute over the removal of the Prime Minister’s photograph from the government institute.
